What are the differences between the Vortex Flats and Vortex Threads clutches?

Vortex Flats uses the familiar needle bearing sprockets and drum designed by SMC about 24 years ago.

Vortex Threads uses a sealed, deep-groove ball bearing and has a screw-in connection with the drum. It was designed by SMC in 2013.
